The last day. In the morning I went to Neuschwanstein Castle, only about 6 km from the hotel, and walked up the forest road from the village below.

Under a grey sky, the white towers floated above the forest. From here there was nothing left but the ride back to Munich. I headed north-east on the autobahn and arrived at the last inn, near the airport.

About 958 km in five days, through Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland and over eight passes, three of those days alongside a friend who had crossed the entire Eurasian continent.

His journey around the world goes on. Mine ends with a flight tomorrow morning. But I think I will always remember the sight of him riding away down the hairpins of the Stelvio.
