Day 5 (8 Sep) — Coming down
Mt. Robson Provincial Park to Jasper

We got up while it was still dark and set off for the trailhead in the morning mist. Yesterday clouds came in from the afternoon and we couldn't see Robson, but today it was fairly clear and we could see Robson's west face. Truly a sheer cliff.

The trailhead was close. With Robson and its permanent snow at our backs, we headed for the trailhead. The squirrels came out for us again today. Apparently many kinds of squirrel live in the Canadian Rockies, including chipmunks and ground squirrels.

We came down safely. A commemorative photo in front of the visitor centre with Mt. Robson behind us.

Today's destination was Jasper in Alberta. As it's in a national park, you have to pay an entry fee at a gate near the provincial border. In Jasper too we decided to stay at a campground: Whistlers Campground, at the foot of Whistlers Mountain, a short drive south of the town. This one also has huge grounds, like a big nature theme park. The photo on the upper left is our living space. There's probably enough land to build a house. We couldn't hike until Mao's cold got better, so we decided to stay two nights here.
